Lil Wayne – Tha Carter IV

Posted by & filed under Albums.

I’m gonna keep this short, I counted this guy out. I felt like he was slipping since his release from prison, I didn’t really hear anything that was particularly impressive about the content he was putting out. “6 Foot 7 Foot” was a solid record but it sure wasn’t no “A Milli,” like he said it would be, “John” was hot but Rick Ross carried that record and “How To Love” left me with a blank stare on my face – still not sold on that record.

Then he dropped the Sorry 4 The Wait mixtape and usually as we all know mixtapes have always been where Wayne shines and there usually better than his albums, but this tape was easily the worst Wayne tape ever put out. After that I really had no hope for this album.

But Then I Heard It….

Ummm yeah, this album is tough. I’ve played MegaMan about 37 times in one day, She Will has gone from being just a solid record to being my favorite joint at the moment. The Interlude and Outro were nice touches, It’s Good is a hot record too minus the imaginary diss raps from Weezy going at Jay-Z, no Wayne isn’t actually capable of kidnapping Beyonce and holding her for Ransom. Remember folks rap is wrestling. I think Mirror should have been on the main album and not a bonus, it should’ve have replaced “So Special” which isn’t as good.

It’s a overall good album, definitely better than Tha Carter III which I only played for a week and forgot about.

I give it 4.5/5

It was a decent album, way better than i thought it was gonna be after the S4TW Mixtape, which was really a letdown too. Wayne goes hard but we’ve all heard it before, play it at parties and to test your subs out in the whip. I liked the Carter III more, it was more memorable and had a more unified sound and I think the hype behind it was better, everything felt forced this time, but the product delivered what it was meant to : a Carter album (remember we’eve seen worse ex. Rebirth)

also Watch the Throne was wayyyyyyyy better

WOW what a bomber. I really wanted to hear some other than the mixtape Wayne on this album but here again he has let me down. I think he purposely released It’s Good to get a buzz in the rap world to boost sales; which wasn’t a bad move. He’s such a versatile rapper I expected a lot more from him at this stage in his career. Now I see why Jay and Ye released Watch The Throne. It’s for all the new comers and old heads to learn how to put an album together and SH*T on the Non-Competition that’s out there!
Carter IV: 2 an a half out 5… Come On Man you have to do better when you take shoots at Jay-Z. Still a fan though fool.

Great wordplay and some clever lines, but no story or direction to most of the songs. It has also felt like generic YMCMB songs where it’s just either hoes money or playin gangsta, nothing new or engaging enough to back up the bravado.

Watch The Throne Was NOT Better both were abit of a let down especially because Kanye is one of my favourite artists and I don’t expect much from Wayne anyway saying that the album is decent with a few hits throughout How To Love Easily worst song on the album, and btw I thought this was a ” The Carter IV ” review not ” Watch The Throne ” smh

Well let me start by saying that Lil Wayne is my favorite rapper therefore my expectations for this album were at an all time high because of how good the Carter 3 was. When I heard Sorry For The Wait I was unimpressed as far as lyrical content goes, even though he only spent 3 days on the mixtape.
      Wayne can do better.
As far as the singles of the Carter 4, 6 foot 7 foot sparked my interest the most…it was like “A Milli” on crack.

The CONS: Now when I heard the album I noticed that something was off. Lil Waynes subject matter has gotten highly repetitive. He’s grown to be the type of rapper to think of 1000 different ways to say “Fuck bitches, get money”. Thats not good

The PROS: In my opinion The Carter 4 was metaphorical oasis full of impressive word wizardry, non-sequiturs, and good punchlines, but it lacks the creativity and originality The Carter 3 had. But Overall it was an alright album. I give it a 4/5 and its definitely worth buying it.

first off i am a huge lil wayne fan and i gotta say my expectations for this album were set super high and comparing this album to his past work well i think he could have went in harder. the metaphors are cool but it gets old fast. in my opinion Carter3 has been his best work in his career thus far. that album had so many memorable songs that i can still listen to over and over again and never get tired of, carter4 not so much, dissapointed in the album yet new lil wayne music is still NEW lil wayne music and im always eager to hear and get more. overall id rank it a 3.5-4/5. btw im headed to a wayne show tonight in omaha!!

I loved the album. On listening to it the first time around I wasn’t a fan of it. However, once listening to it in depth I was taken aback and had to replay a few lines back. I think many don’t understand the complex punchlines he used this album, defintley think outside of the box when listening to it. Pun’s like “All hail Weezy, call it bad weather”, were definitley clever. He gets a thumbs up from me,
