Earlier in the year King Hova changed the game with his #NewRules initiative with the release of Magna Carta Holy Grail, since then everyone of has been attempting new ways to release their project. Taking a note out of her husbands book Queen B closes out 2013 by changing the rules like her husband did.
On Friday, Beyonce decided to drop off a brand new album out of nowhere, and immediately the fans, the internet, and the music industry went nuts.
Just after a few hours Bey’s self titled collection moved nearly 80,000 copies.
Now it’s being reported that the Queen has indeed set to top the charts this week, moving an estimated 430,000 copies in one day.
Not too shabby for someone who hasn’t dropped a album in quite some time. I expect to see more of this in the future from big name artists, it gets rid of the bootleggers, erases all the press and the unnecessary promo material, not to mention listening to singles months before the album is released and running the risk of the album being leaked.
It’s definitely a game changer, even more so being that it was such a big success.
Congrats to Beyonce, your most certainly still the Queen.
