The damages that knight’s claiming are: being shot in the upper right leg; shattering his bone thus requiring surgery, months of physical therapy, continued mental pain, suffering and loss of income. Suge is also claiming to have lost a $135,000 diamond stud earring during the chaos of being shot. According to Knight the earring was retrieved by a person who declared himself as an employee. This “employee” guaranteed Knight the safe return of his precious earring. Unfortunately for Suge, the earring was not returned. Suge is under the impression that this “employee” worked for Kanye or for one of the others who were included in the the suit.           

“It was reasonably foreseeable to defendants that the party would present a dangerous environment with the possibility of weapons (including firearms) being used by or against party guests given the well-known feuds that have at times pitched East Coast rap and hip-hop stars against West Coast rap and hip-hop stars, some of whom would be attending the party with their associates, the lawsuit reads, adding that “certain hip-hop artists who were invited to the party … were known not to be friendly to Mr. Knight.”

Kanye West’s 808’s & Heartbreak, Ludacris’ Theater of the Mind and the Killers’ Day & Age are the artists, and albums that are going to have an early release date of Monday November 24, 2008. Rather than the more traditional Tuesday release date, Def Jam chose to drop the albums just a day earlier than scheduled. This was done in an attempt to reach higher sales rates.

The Monday release of these albums will be both digital as well as physical releases. Def Jam may have the right idea here as all three of these albums are showing promising sales. Kanye West’s Love Lock Down hit number three on the Hot 100, Ludacris’ One More Drink Featuring T-Pain is at the number 34^th spot on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop songs and the Killers’ Human is number six on the Billboard’s Modern Rock charts.

With the Carter 3’s total sales now at 1,806,562, Wayne needs to sell less than 200,000 more copies for it to be certified double platinum.

Up two spots from last week at #8 is the re-release of Rhianna’s “Good Girl Gone Bad” which moved 47,100 units this week bringing it’s total sales to 1,441,305 so far.

Next up at number 9 is G-Unit’s sophomore album “Terminate On Sight” which in it’s second week managed to move 36,348 copies bringing it’s total to 138,150.

“Here I Stand” from R&B singer User comes in at no. 11 this week with sales of 33,253 adding to it’s new total of 880,570 copies sold.

With sales of 24,391, Three Six Mafia’s “Last To Walk” snatches the #16 spot this week with it’s total sales figure now at 138,404.

Further down the chart, Plies sold 24,063 copies of his “Definition Of Real” album which now totals 380,267 units sold.

Tech N9ne’s “Killer” album moved 13,421 bringing it’s total to 49,665, Miami based rapper Rick Ross sold 10,077 copies of his “Trilla” which has now sold a total of 619,908.

“M.O.B.” by Jim Jones & The Byrd Gang sold 6,287 copies this week bringing it’s total to 23,545 and in it’s first week on the charts Killer Mike’s “I Pledge Allegiance to the Grind Pt 2? sold 3,566.

An eyewitness told Newsday that among the injured, all of whom suffered smoke inhalation according to fire officials, were 50 Cent’s ex-girlfriend, Shaniqua Tompkins, and their 10-year-old son, Marquise.

“She was all right,” eyewitness Frank Hoyte, a Newsday employee, said, adding: “But she was angry.”

He said Tompkins was standing outside the home barefoot as it burned, wearing a bathrobe. Two young boys, one of them Marquise, two teenage girls and “an older woman” were also standing with Tompkins, Hoyte said.

Fire officials are calling the blaze “definitely suspicious.” You already know how this is going to turn out there going to say 50 Cent did it or maybe his baby mama pulled a Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes.

Up and coming Brooklyn rapper Sav Killz is making a lot of noise on the East Coast hip hop scene and for good reason. The dude has skills, personality, presence and dope lyrics. He also has the backing J-Ronin, a hot mixtape DJ who has been guiding his career and overseeing his mixtapes. Their recent collaboration, Success is Inevitable, is part of J-Ronin’s All Elements series and is a banger and finds him teaming with heavyweights such as Sean Price, Teflon and Smif-n-Wessun. He honed his skills among the Wu Tang Clan, Sunz of Man and Brooklyn Zu having spent many a night rhyming in 36 Chambers studio and Restoration Plaza in Brooklyn which was run by Clan elder Popa Wu. Sav also performed at many open mic events, where he gained a rap as one of the illest in the scene. Since then he has shared the stage with the likes of Killah Priest, Shabaam Sahdeeq, Shabazz the Disciple, Cormega, Slum Village, AZ, The Beatnuts, M.O.P., Jeru the Damaja, Saigon and more.

So Freestyle 101 was stoked to get Sav in the booth (thanks J-Ronin!) at Play Studios in New York to spit some street rhymes and chat about the current underground scene in New York. Bustin’ hard over a sick R.N.S. beat, Sav proved why he is one of the hottest out there right now, no doubt.

Keyshia is NOT Beyonce. Keyshia DID NOT have the pleasure of growing up in a nurturing environment (so to speak) as Beyonce which would have enabled her to start early and get that advantage that Beyonce has had – that support is fundamental. Beyonce had parents who quit their damn jobs for their child’s dreams… and where was Keyshia’s mom. Exactly! As far as ya’ll hating on Keyshia’s looks… Keyshia has come a MIGHTY long way. She’s definitely not as ghetto looking as she was before, therefore I am proud of her… SISTER GIRL is doing the damn thing! I was proud of her at the NFL Kick Off and I am proud of her now, she’s showing us a different side of her and I like this side a whole helluva lot better than before. Additionally, Keyshia offers a more realistic perspective on relationships that the AVERAGE woman deals with without sugarcoating it…whereas Bee (and I do love me some Bee okay!) but Bee is signing with the silver spoon still in her mouth…. she has no ideal what it means to undergo hardship and she never will.

Umph… I told ya’ll DJs are already saying that Ye has won this one… but just for the amusement of it all, I’d let 50 embarrass himself on NATIONAL TV so maybe he can go somewhere and sit the f*** down! Mind you, I like 50, but I just feel like he’s not competition anymore considering that he’s watered his style down 100% while Kanye has increased his by 100%. Speaking of 50, Tony Yayo’s lawyer has obtained a witness who is willing to testify that he is innocent to the assault of the son of Jimmy Henchman. Bill O’Reilly is being hated again, this time by Nas as he stated publically to MTV that O’Reilly is a racist… um… this isn’t new but Nas will be performing at Virginia Tech! —Developing — Speaking of drama, Bob Marley’s family is suing Verizon & Universal Records Music group for selling Bob Marley ringtones… Again, Swiss is still mad about his poor record sales, this time saying “Talib sold more than me without a hit single,” – which proves my point!

WHAT THE F*** – Now, I never heard of Dipset’s JR until today but this man has apparently signed a multi-million dollar deal with another independent label. Now, this is nuts to me because if I never heard of him why is he worth so much money?

HOT SH*T – T.I. and Ciara have a song called, “Goodbye, My dear”… I’m not sure how I feel about Ciara’s verse but ya’ll know I LOVE T.I. so of course I am loving his verse but unlike Nelly, TI does not have a musical voice or singing capabilities but it is a good try TIP just don’t do it EVER AGAIN! – Mya has a new video called “Ridin”.

AS IF YOU SHOULD CARE – Jay-Z told the press the other day that he and Beyoncè should be getting married soon. “sooner than later” he said actually… but I believe he did say that years ago and they’re still not married so…. We’ll see…

**Before I started writing for this site, I used to do a editorial/commentary on various things in the world of Hip-Hop, and I’d like to extend that column to this website where it is more fitting.

I know I am about to sound like a big feminist when I say this – then I’m going to sound like a racist, or better let be labeled the “angry black woman” but before you be so quick to judge hear me out.
Now, once before, I heard the rumors that Polow the Don didn’t like black girls…but you know, I just dismissed the allegations with saying that everyone is entitled to their opinion.
But when I read the article of him on AllHipHop.com and saw what he said about black women, I was immediately outraged. This is what he had to say:

AllHipHop.com: Now, you call yourself the “King of All White Girls.” Elaborate on that for me.

Polow Da Don: Just the “King of the White Girls.” I ain’t self proclaimed but I run with it. [Laughs] There was a stage in my life where I went crazy with dating white women. I have nothing against black women, but they’re raised differently. White women are raised to respect and serve their men. Black women are taught to question [their men]. Black women look at submission as being weak. White women look at submission as being a woman. And anyone who has a problem with this statement is ignorant. Just look at the divine order; it goes man, woman, child.

… um… excuse me? Ain’t yo momma black? Then, aren’t you black? Again, I know this racisim is about to kick into factor but please note that I am far from it. It just pisses me off as a BLACK person first and a BLACK woman secondly to hear other BLACK MEN speak down to us when it is the BLACK WOMAN who supports your BLACK @$$ and deals with your BLACK SH*T and can relate to you as in what it means to be BLACK. Don’t try to play me (or us) because WE as BLACK WOMEN have gotten sick of tolerating your bullsh*t. Obviously, he just wants a “yes ma’am” or a “jellyback” broad – meaning anyone who can’t stand up for themselves and defend themselves out of fear for being left alone.

Black women, I applaud you and respect your gangsta demeanor. Take a stand. Say a couple of “hell no’s!” and question your man. If he’s your man, then that’s your divine right to question him. Relationships are 50 -50, and I don’t know what pre-woman’s suffrage area he’s living in but BLACK WOMAN faught hard for the rights that his momma have, his grandmomma have, and great grandmomma have. Then to say, “White women look at submission as being a woman.” Child boo. Being a woman is handling her business on her own. Being a woman is raising a family by herself. Being a woman is not being afraid to challenge those who “think” they have power (even if it’s the black man). And before I piss anybody else off, let me say this: Being a woman is not eagle scopin’ a ballin’ @$$ dude, laying up with up, poppin’ out babies, stay with him for a few years, and living comfortably off of that divorce settlement she’s getting. (look at the history of interracial marriages in the world of entertainment in comparison to the history of solid racial marriages). From a personal perspective, this irritates me. How can you lay up with a woman that would sleep with you and then lie and say she was raped, watch you get lynched, and/or beat? Who was washing the blood off yo back, buddy? It damn sure wasn’t her white @$$….

I don’t know about you all and how you all stand, but when I see prosperous black men saying such negative things like this about black women, hell yeah, I get offended. And sadly, we’re the ones dancing to his beats up in the damn clubs. *Tisk* – he just lost one!

Recently, I had the opportunity to check out the Chicago wing of The Beyoncè Experience featuring R&B recording artist Robin Thicke. Initially, I was skeptical of how I would feel about the show knowing that the reviews for the show haven’t been so great by other gossip columnist. However, I must admit, neither Robin Thicke nor Beyoncè left the audience disappointed. Therefore, I have drawn the conclusion that such reporters are simply “Beyoncè haters” based upon their negative comments regarding the show.

As a frequent of her tours, I was not disappointed. Beyonce’s set was bright, colorful, and creatively put together. Although majority of her dance routines were recycled from past videos, they were still full of energy and represented a large variation of women from various ethnicity’s and nationalities. In addition, Beyoncè had several women of size dancing and singing on stage, which also gave them some representation in the concert in addition to the women with musical talents from overseas. Whereas before with her shows, there wasn’t a band, women of size in her show dancing and singing, furthermore the representation of women from all over to be able to share the spotlight almost equally with Beyonce herself. As always, during the costume changes, Beyoncè allowed the members of her Suga Mama band to receive recognition for their exceptional talents by allowing them all to create or perform a musical piece and to connect with the audience. Once again, the audience was able to see the variety of women who were selected to be in this band; it wasn’t all African American women or all American women. There were women from all over the world in that band who were talented and had the ability to play all types of music from classical to contemporary music. In addition, Beyoncè also allowed her dancers to have their dancing abilities displayed as well as her male dancers danced creatively to contemporary hits such as Throw Some D’s Aye Bay Bay, and other recent hits.

Performance wise, Beyoncè was exceptional. Her ability to dance, sing, and still entertain the audience while making that connection with the audience was keen. Perhaps this ability extends from years of training to be a super star, but each and every year it seems that Beyoncè is able to strengthen this ability into becoming a legendary performer. Her energy was beyond outstanding; her voice was strong and well rested. Most importantly, Beyonce’s singing abilities were displayed as she sang over exceptional artist’s songs such as Jill Scott’s, She Loves Me”. As a fan and spectator, I was simply amazed at her ability to sound excellent at singing Another artist record and still lure the audience into feeling her as if it were her own material. Throughout the entire two hours (or so) that she was on stage, the audience stood on their feet, danced in the isles, scream, cheered, waved, and singed along.

As far as the costume and wardrobe is concerned, once again, Beyoncè upgraded her show. Whereas before it were simple costume changes or outfits, this time the wardrobe was a little more flashy, exquisite, and luxurious. She was full of sparkles, shimmer, and shingles. Her makeup was flawless, her hair was cute, and she simply looked fabulous. Overall, the complete concert was a smash. It was beyond exceptional, and it was all worth the wait.

Chicago author and DJ Meta Smith inks deal with G-Unit Books

Chicago, June 18, 2007 — Meta Smith, author of the blockbuster novels “The Rolexxx Club” (Warner Books, July 2006) and “Queen of Miami” (Warner Books, March 2007) is the latest author to sign with entrepreneur, multi-platinum selling rapper, and New York Times Bestselling author 50 Cent’s G-Unit Books.

Yes hip hop does exploit women, promote drugs and violence but it also promotes positivity, social awareness. It motivates people who have nothing to go out and become something, it encourages you to have a voice. Many other genres of music have as much negativity as hip hop does, but since those genres are not considered to be black music no one cares. Hip Hop is black music and has become the number genre of music making billions of dollars yearly, this is why it’s always under the scope.

On the heels of highly publicized legal troubles, Gillie defiantly presses forward with the release of his first solo LP featuring Philly’s renowned Major Figgas crew

Over the years, Gillie Da Kid of the Major Figgas crew has electrified the streets of Philly with his mixtape releases, substantiating his self-proclaimed appointment as the “King of Philly.” The broader hip-hop community, however, probably knows him best for the highly publicized beef with Cash Money (and more specifically, Lil’ Wayne), surrounding his ghostwriting efforts for the renowned New Orleans clique.

Now, with the March 13th debut solo release, The Best of the GDK Mixtapes, Gillie showcases the highlights of the renowned mixtape releases that made him a “hoodhold” name in the streets of Philly. Featuring the entire Major Figgas crew, any doubts as to Gillie’s ghostwriting claims will be laid to rest. As is often remarked in the industry, beef is beef and talk is just talk. In the case of Gillie Da Kid, however, “the facts are truly in the wax.”

Gillie Da Kid first garnered national attention as one seventh of the Philly-based group Major Figgas with the release of their album Figgas 4 Life in the late ‘90s. In 2000, the group’s single, “Yeah, That’s Us,” became the #2 rap single in the country and Gillie and the other six Figgas (Spade, Dutch, Bianca-The First Lady, Bumpie J, Ab Live and Rolx) received an ASCAP Songwriter award. However, the critical acclaim and underground appreciation for the group was never matched by the record’s sales, so the Figgas chose to focus on their solo careers.

After a chance meeting with Baby from Cash Money Records backstage at Philadelphia’s First Union Center, Gillie was offered a spot on the label. The deal was completed in a week, but disputes over publishing rights placed the artist and label in an antagonistic relationship. “I didn’t want to sell any of my publishing,” Gillie said in an interview, “but they just assumed that after we got the label deal done they could just make me blink into selling them some publishing, but I wouldn’t do it. So that’s why they basically had me playing the background.”

Playing the background was all Gillie needed to shake things up at the label. “When I got around there, I changed the whole direction of Cash Money. Not just the ghostwriting part, I’m talking about everything,” he says. In addition to his claims of ghostwriting for Cash Money artists, most notably his assertion that he penned nearly all of Lil’ Wayne’s The Carter I, Gillie says he is single-handedly responsible for the rapper’s dramatic change in rap style. Gillie left Cash Money to pursue a solo career- and kept quiet about what he did for the label until Lil’ Wayne released a diss track directed at him.

The question of his influence on Wayne and Cash Money is a controversial one in the hip-hop community and is responsible for Gillie’s somewhat infamous reputation, but he handles it with the bravado of an artist confident in his abilities: “[Lil’ Wayne] feel like he got something to prove, but you don’t got nothing to prove to nobody, shorty. Just keep doing you ’cause this could be your downfall…you don’t even have enough charisma. You a clone.”

Gillie made headlines in June of 2006 by getting shot three times in what the police called an attempted murder. There were no suspects and the perpetrator’s motives remain unknown, reportedly due to his lack of cooperation with the authorities. However, Gillie hardly seemed phased by the shooting, coolly explaining in an interview that “[he] got shot a few times, you know…but it was about nothing, [he’s] still here breathing.”

The shooting and Gillie’s beef with Lil’ Wayne, Baby, and Cash Money Records aside, Gillie is focused on the March 13th release of his first solo LP, The Best of the GDK Mixtapes and bringing more prominence to his native city and fellow rappers from Philadelphia, a town known more for exporting talent than keeping it. “Everybody from Philly that came out didn’t give back,” he says. Gillie hopes to change all that with his explosive buzz. “[I'm] going around displaying talent, giving them a shot, letting them be seen and heard,” he says, “I’m working on me and my crew.”
