Drake actually sang much longer than you perceive. This was long before he made attempts at entering radio waves. In other words, he had this duality with hip-hop/singing before he became popular and long before he entered mainstream. In fact, before his mixtapes became popular, he was doing both. So the “old Drake” is actually the person you hear on this song.

I dont get why people say “i want the old drake, the drake that doesnt sing for radio play” hes not singing for radio play or juss to be mainstream he juss loves to sing he still takes vocal lesson like any other singer and the mixtape that blew up his career has singing on it like sooner than later one of his best singing songs, i think, and when he mixes it up wit his raps juss makes it raw especially houstatlantavegas and the points of his songs are usually hidden behind his lyrics like in houstatlantavegas not once does he mention a stripper but thats what the songs about.
