Is SXSW Becoming Too Mainstream?

Posted by & filed under Hip Hop News.

Artists talk about the rise of the popular music festival. (Season 2012).

This was my second year at SXSW and it was amazing! I got to sit down with a lot of great artists and see some upcoming talent perform. The one thing that I noticed this year though was the amount of starpower that surrounded the festival. Hip-Hop’s elite inlcluding Jay-Z, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, and 50 Cent all performed at the festival that once was a breeding ground for indie artists.

I linked up with Shawn Chrystopher, Mannie Fresh, Kendrick Lamar, Emilio Rojas, Dee-1, Shawn Falyon, and XV to discuss if SXSW is becoming too mainstream. Check out the latest episode of Face to Face on BET.com!

As an Austinite who remembers when you could just walk up and see a show with no wristband and flashy name at SXSW…I would say YES!!
