It isn’t they that are on complete opposite sides of the spectrum of Hip Hop. It really isn’t even that they are very similar at all. People keep trying to turn this into some Nas vs. Jay-z Bullshit and it really isn’t. J.cole and Drake both have melodic verses. This is to say that as opposed to just having a monotone voice and “going hard” they can be more delicate with thier delivery of their verses. The fact that they change up their vocal inflection to add another dimension to their songs it what makes them so worth listening too. J.Coles production kills Drakes any day.

Cole really wants to blow up he needs a radio hit. The hook is on point for a radio hit, but the lyrics really aren’t dumbed down enough. I know that a true hip hop fan doesn’t like dumbed down lyrics, but radio songs are dumbed down. One quote that I heard about radio hits is that the chorus should be easy enough for a six year old to sing.
