Pitchfort.tv series “Selector” brings us this collab between Jim Jones, Girl Talk and Lloyd for this 1970s soul group Honey Cone “Want Ads” sampled record titled “Believe in Magic”.
Says Pitchfork:
The latest episode of the Pitchfork.tv series “Selector” is pretty special. In a deviated from the usual “Selector” formula (in which rappers choose from two beats produced by indie artists for a freestyle backing track), we brought Dipset MC Jim Jones and mashup maestro Girl Talk together in Jones’ Nomad District studio. Together, they created a new track: “Believe in Magic”, produced by Girl Talk using a sample of 1970s soul group Honey Cone’s “Want Ads” and freestyled by Jones. Jones liked the results much that he brought in R&B crooner Lloyd to contribute a hook and plans to release it as a single in the near future.
