Me (personally) as an Artist/Writer/'OG' Spitter;--the Game as we know it has come to Sim-Plex Lyrics Over 'Hard' Club-Bangin Beats.
..it seems all you need today is a Hott-beat & a catchy chorus:...& Wah-Laa
--Instant Hit;--as for as the mainstream/radios playlist is concern.
.Which leaves no-room for those artist who aren't willing to 'Dumb' themselves down to get a record broken or played.
Hell,--DJ's are being bought out & are playing favortism' as well---since when you had to milk so many pockets to your record played?..

I still choose to be 'Lyrical w/ a Lil' bit of Persona:

Either people got dumber, or people are even easier to be impressed. Play something enough times, and it will stick anyway. So this could be the force feeding of the media to keep us dumb and distracted. As an artist the simple answer is to be talented enough to appease the simple heads, but slip in some shyt the real hip hop heads will appreciate. And BE REAL!

I think a large part of what we like as artists depends on what we do. Sometimes, lyricism complements the greater whole. Other times, we get seriously great beats/melodies with very little lyricism. As a fan, I've always been attracted by great lyrics going back to Big D Kane, Rakim, ATCQ, LL, Slick Rick and coming forward to Ice Cube, Rass Kass, Xzibit, Canibus, METHOD MAN, Pac, Biggie, Pun. One thing is absolutely clear for me though: A great rapper and a great lyricist are two different things now. Used to be that those two traits were identical and you couldn't have one without the other. But now, people sell you MickeyD's and want you to consider it a full course from a 5 star restaraunt.
