Sometimes, lyricism complements the greater whole. Other times, we get seriously great beats/melodies with very little lyricism. As a fan, I’ve always been attracted by great lyrics going back to Big D Kane, Rakim, ATCQ, LL, Slick Rick and coming forward to Ice Cube, Rass Kass, Xzibit, Canibus, METHOD MAN, Pac, Biggie, Pun. One thing is absolutely clear for me though: A great rapper and a great lyricist are two different things now. Used to be that those two traits were identical and you couldn’t have one without the other. But now, people sell you MickeyD’s and want you to consider it a full course from a 5 star restaraunt.
