Critical Praise For Erk Tha Jerk:

"Nerd’s Eye View will likely be remembered as one of the definitive Bay Area albums of the post-Hyphy era... Not only is it the best debut album since Mistah F.A.B.’s Son of a Pimp, but it might just change perceptions of Bay Area rappers: namely, that they can’t make hit songs." –Oakland Local.

"On Nerd's Eye View, Erk just talks about what he knows, and in this case, it largely centers around his uncertainty over what the future holds. Erk has a gravelly voice and bouncy flow... and it's hard not to love the ravey synths, big hooks, and confessionals." - SF Weekly.

"Erk Tha Jerk is a West Coast Kid Cudi without the liquid cocaine problem." - East Bay Express.

The Song:

In a few short months since its release, Erk Tha Jerk's debut album Nerd's Eye View has earned the certified Hood Nerd radio spins and acclaim from critics. Now the Bay Area emcee is proud to release the latest track from the album"Hands Up," recently chosen to be the centerpiece of Clear Channel's "New! Artist To Watch" promotional campaign. As a result of his new title, his profile has been posted on the websites of 50 radio stations across the country, such asKISS, Power 105 and more, including regular supporter and Bay Area powerhouse 106 KMEL.

Calling out all the single ladies, Erk shows off his slick talking ability "Let me get behind that, girl do it again rewind that /I can be a drum to your high hat /Dope boy fresh, like I'm bringing '89 back," while Netta B provides the sensual background vocals. The mix of bluesy guitar chords, soulful horns and drums set the smooth mood of the track.

Erk Tha Jerk was recently featured in XXL Magazine's Show & Prove. Check the feature out below.

His streetwear heavy fashion sense, trademark black eyeglasses and hood nerd persona all worked in his favor. Being from a “bad place” yet knowing that there are non-hood things out there is what has shaped Erk’s approach to life and music. “I went to college for a couple years, I’ve worked 9 to 5 jobs and I’ve sold weed and none of those things quite worked out so I’m kinda like a hood nerd.” His satirical anti-hyphy anthem "I'm So Dumb" and "Plane in the Air" featuring Too $hort defined him as an artist but it was 2009's "Right Here"that put him on the map. The censored version became one of106 KMEL's (San Francisco) most played songs, charted onBillboard's Top 100 Hip Hop/R&B, and the video is currently in rotation on MTV Jams. Erk Tha Jerk's debut album, Nerd’s Eye View, is available now.

The post Erk Tha Jerk – Hands Up (feat. A little over a month after the release of his debut album, Nerd’s Eye View, Bay Area emcee Erk Tha Jerk has been certified as a Clear Channel “New! Coinciding with this event is the release of his new video for “Ha Ha,” a track from the record featuring London, who provides the song’s infectious hook. Shot by Clay & Magz in collaboration with Erk, who handles direction for all of his own videos, the clip shows Erk and London living the good life, lounging at bars and cruising the streets in high end cars while London’s vocals marinate over the beat’s smooth instrumentation and heavy drums. “Laughing at all of my haters/ Watching my shine, climbing up to the top” sings London, while Erk shares his own confidence with lines like, “This is something I was born with, you cannot inherit that.”

The post Erk Tha Jerk – Ha Ha Video (feat. Erk Tha Jerk has received major radio spins, amassed hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube, has had a video in rotation on MTV2, and has performed around the country – all without a debut album in stores. No longer, as today marks the release ofNerd's Eye View, the long-awaited debut release from the self-proclaimed Hood Nerd. To celebrate the album, Erk is releasing, "Reach The Top" featuring J. Myers, a track that offers insight and triumphant proclamations from an artist both reaching a new career plateau and striving harder still to continue on an upward progression.

"I wanted people to hear a detailed description of my story," says Erk, who also produces and directs his own videos. "Where I came from – not the streets, but growing up as a kid; what the neighborhood looked like and how that helped shape me." Producer Invasion provides the Richmond, California rapper with a wonderfully soulful backdrop to tell that story, as Erk raps lines like, "I am straight from the bottom/ The struggle, it's not a problem/ New Jordan's, I never got 'em/ My momma couldn't afford 'em/ My father was talking mortgage/ 16, I started wilding," and "Knew I was gonna shine even when my girl didn't/ And look y'all, it's happening just like Gerald said it/ So to my city, I'm just trying to put you on," giving listeners a chance to view the world through Erk's signature wide rimmed glasses.

On Erk Tha Jerk's Hood Nerd 2: Memoirs Of The Invisible Man, Erk ends his first song, "One In A Million Freestyle" with, "The mixtape free, no charge it's on me/ These throw away moves, you can keep the music." He's being modest. While the mixtape may be free, Erk's flow really shines. His vocals have range; his command of each song allows him to rhythmically switch up his rhymes, making each song unique. On the concept of the mixtape, Erk explains, "Memoirs Of The Invisible Man is my way of saying I'm here even when you can't see me; a shot at the people who pretend I'm not in the room until it's too late."

Hood Nerd 2 is a generous offering for a mixtape. Beyond having twenty-one tracks, the overall composition is very eclectic. "Givin It" is a banger with hard, fun production; the track could easily be on an LP. Then, there are freestyle tracks like "One In A Million Freestyle," with raw production that are pure demonstrations of Erk's ability as an emcee. "When I'm in 'hood nerd' mode I tend to just let go," notes Erk on the creation process. "I say what I want when I want and make sure to create anti-radio music--it's just hip-hop with twenty-four bar verses where I can be as lyrical as I want."

Look out for Erk Tha Jerk's Nerds Eye View coming soon.
